Summary of the Economic Outlook events
Retour sur… Economic Outlook 2020 with William de Vijlder, Group Chief Economist of BNP Paribas.
On Friday the 31st of January, the Danish-French Chamber of Commerce and Benelux Business club had organized their eighth traditional annual breakfast event "Economic Outlook BNP Paribas 2020".
A big thank you to William de Vijlder, Group Chief Economist at BNP Paribas, for the splendid and informative presentation and to Gorrissen Federspiel for lending us their wonderful premises.
For the fourth year in a row, William de Vijlder generously shared his prospects for the coming year. Focusing mainly on the US but getting around many relevant topics, he predicted a slight growth pick-up. He spoke of how fears of increased inflation have eased as well as fears of growth slow-down have generally stabilized. A supportive monetary and fiscal environment lead to business confidence and increase growth (however, not by much). He did also mention non-economic risks that may impact the future economic outlook, in particular the potential geopolitical crisis of Iran-US relations and the Corona-virus. The impact of these issues is difficult to predict and may or may not be substantial. Brexit was also mentioned, as the UK now enters a time where they must renegotiate trade deals with third countries as well as untangle their relationship to the EU.
The day before the breakfast conference, the sponsors of the Chamber had been invited to a VIP dinner at Chez Bruno.
