Conference with Jean Tirole

On the 4th of October, our members had the honour to meet the Nobel Prize-winning economist Jean Tirole at the French Embassy.

J. Tirole was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 2014 for his analysis of market power and the regulation of natural monopolies.

The 4th of October Jean Tirol introduced his book “Economics for the Common Good”.

When Jean Tirole won the 2014 Nobel Prize in Economics, he suddenly found himself being stopped in the street by complete strangers and was asked to comment on issues of the day, no matter how distant they were from his own area of research. His transformation from an academic economist to a public intellectual prompted him to reflect further on the role that economists and their trade play in society. His reflections are presented in his latest book “Economics for the Common Good”, a passionate manifesto about a world in which economics is far from being the "dismal science” but is a positive force for the common good. Providing a rich account of how economics can benefit everyone, Economics for the Common Good sets a new agenda for the role of economics in society.

The conference was followed by a cocktail where a signing session had been organized.

A few pictures of the conference can be found below.
